Using Exploring Government as designed provides one half-year of high school credit in U.S. government and one half-year of credit in English (literature and composition). This curriculum features:
- Engaging lessons with colorful photographs and historic illustrations
- Primary source documents offering perspectives from the past and present
- Weekly project ideas
Here's what Jenny in Minnesota said about this curriculum:
We've been using your Government curriculum with our two high school boys. What wonderful conversations we're having, and we're learning so much. It's a delight.

How It Works
Exploring Government gives students a rich learning experience while providing parents with the clarity and structure needed to teach confidently. Designed for use at any point in high school, it offers age-appropriate rigor and supports both independent learners and family-based instruction.
The Exploring Government Curriculum Package includes two books:
- Exploring Government
- We Hold These Truths
Exploring Government is a full-color, richly illustrated hardcover that includes the lessons to read and all instructions you need. We Hold These Truths is a collection of historic and modern documents, essays, and speeches in American government designed to supplement the lessons. Each selection is assigned in a particular lesson in the textbook.
We offer an optional Student Review Pack to help parents assess learning and ensure mastery for advanced or struggling students. The Student Review has review questions for each lesson and literary analysis for each literature title. The Quiz and Exam Book includes a quiz for each unit and three exams that cover five units each. The Guide for Parents and Answer Key contains all the answers needed for the course.
The English component of the curriculum includes completing weekly projects and reading four literature titles. These two biographies and two autobiographies explore the lives of people who have played significant roles in American government--Theodore Roosevelt, Calvin Coolidge, Chuck Colson, and Ronald Reagan.
